School in Israel typically ends at 1pm but, since many parents work long hours, children are often left to fend for themselves for the afternoon and into the evening. When the school bell rings at Shuvu the learning continues, albeit in a more relaxed, fun atmosphere. Shuvu remains seriously committed to the well-being of its students both during and after school hours. This holistic philosophy is reflected through its diverse and stimulating after-school programs and hot lunches, which have become an integral part of the day for many Shuvu students.
Shuvu's after-school support even extends to children from other schools. This has become yet another compelling reason for parents to send their children to Shuvu, in the comforting knowledge that their children will be supervised in a safe, wholesome environment, and not exposed to drugs, violence and crime on Israel's streets.
- Extra-Curricular Activities
For Shuvu students, being told to stay on after school takes on a whole new meaning! Children can choose from an exciting array of age-appropriate after-school programs, which give them the opportunity to enrich their education and learn more about their heritage, or to develop creative skills such as art, music, dance, computing and sports, beyond the structured school curriculum.
For those who request it, teachers are on-hand to help children with homework, utilizing the afternoon hours to reinforce lessons they may have had problems absorbing during the school day.
Shuvu summer camps continue to offer thousands of Israeli children an unforgettable summer experience which has become one of Shuvu's most popular programs. Parents appreciate the fact that their children are not roaming the streets during the long summer months but are involved in numerous stimulating activities.
Summer camps are held throughout the country and a typical week will include sports, hiking, swimming, magic shows, music days, treasure hunts and water slides. Campers are also taken on trips to Israel's museums and amusement parks, for horseback riding, cow milking and barbecues in the park.
2,300 children participated in our camps in the summer of 2008, including many who are educated outside the Shuvu schools network. Many of them, after experiencing the warmth and inspiration of the camps, decide to register at a Shuvu school.
